-45 dB
Anything quieter than this counts as silence. More negative = only true silence; higher = trims soft pauses too.

Only pauses longer than this are removed — shorter, natural pauses are kept.

Leaves a little breathing room at each cut so speech doesn't run together.

Detects quiet gaps with a moving loudness window and stitches the talking parts together — all locally, nothing uploaded. Works best on spoken word with a steady background.

How to remove silence from audio

  1. Drop your recording in. Choose or drag an MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG or FLAC — it loads in your browser and is never uploaded.
  2. Tune the cut. Set the threshold (what counts as silence) and the minimum gap (how long a pause must be to go), then press Preview result. The panel shows how much was removed.
  3. Remove silence & download. Save the tightened audio as MP3 or WAV.

Frequently asked questions (5)

Is it free?

Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermarks, and no limit on how many recordings you clean up.

What does it actually remove?

It finds gaps that stay below your threshold for longer than the minimum gap and removes them, keeping a short pause at each edge so speech doesn't run together. Shorter, natural pauses are left alone.

Will it cut off quiet speech?

It can if the threshold is set too high. It works best on spoken word over a steady background — start with the default and lower the threshold (more negative) if any soft words get trimmed.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Decoding and processing happen locally in your browser, so your audio never leaves your device.

Which formats can I use?

Whatever your browser can decode — MP3 and WAV work everywhere, with M4A, OGG and FLAC where supported. The result is saved as MP3 or WAV.
