How to make audio louder (without distortion)

Recording came out too quiet? You can turn it up in your browser — for free, with nothing uploaded — and a clip guard keeps it from distorting as it gets louder.

Make it louder in 3 steps

  1. Open the Volume Booster and drop your file in. Choose or drag an MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG or FLAC — it loads locally and is never uploaded.
  2. Raise the Boost slider. Slide it up (in decibels) to make the audio louder. Keep Prevent clipping on — the panel shows the resulting peak as you go.
  3. Download. Save the louder version as MP3 or WAV.
How "no distortion" works: with Prevent clipping on (the default), the boost is capped so the loudest peak stays just under 0 dB — so a quiet file can get a lot louder without distorting, but it won't push past full volume. Turn the guard off only if you want maximum loudness and accept possible clipping. If your goal is a consistent level rather than just louder, try the Normalizer, which auto-levels to a target loudness. Nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?

Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no watermarks, and no limit on how many files you boost.

Will boosting distort my audio?

Not with Prevent clipping on (the default): the boost is capped so the loudest peak stays just under 0 dB. Turn it off only if you want maximum loudness and accept possible clipping.

What's the difference from the Normalizer?

The Volume Booster gives you a manual gain slider to make a file as loud as you want (clip-safe). The Normalizer automatically levels audio to a target loudness instead.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Analysis and processing happen locally in your browser, so your audio never leaves your device.
